REFUND POLICY.
No Guarantee of Outcome
Motley Investigations ("The Agency") provides professional investigative services based on time, labor, and expertise. Due to the unpredictable nature of investigative work—including factors beyond the Agency’s control such as third-party actions, environmental conditions, and the availability of information, Motley Investigations makes no warranties or guarantees, express or implied, regarding the specific success or outcome of any case.
While we commit to conducting all investigations with due diligence and to the best of our professional ability, the final findings may not align with the client's desired results. All expressions regarding potential outcomes are strictly matters of investigative opinion and do not constitute a promise of performance. Consequently, no refunds will be issued based on the client's subjective dissatisfaction with the investigation's results.
Service & Refund Policy
At Motley Investigations, we conduct our business in strict accordance with the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) regulations. We prioritize transparency in our billing to ensure a professional partnership from start to finish.
Retainers and Unused Funds
In line with standard Oregon investigative practices, most cases require an upfront retainer based on an estimated number of hours. These funds are held to cover professional time and authorized expenses.
-
Final Accounting: Upon the conclusion of your case, you will receive an itemized report of services rendered.
-
Prompt Refunds: Any remaining balance from your retainer that was not applied to billable hours or expenses will be refunded to you in full.
No Guarantee of Results (Oregon Professional Standards)
Per ORS 703.450, investigators are prohibited from making false reports or engaging in fraud. Because our duty is to provide an honest and impartial factual record:
-
Fees are paid for the professional time, expertise, and diligent effort of our investigators, not for a specific predetermined outcome.
-
We cannot guarantee that a subject will be found, that evidence of a specific activity will be captured, or that information exists. No refunds are issued based on a client’s dissatisfaction with the facts discovered during a lawful investigation.
Cancellation Policy & Intake Fees
Clients may cancel an investigation at any time by providing written notice.
-
Work Performed: You will be billed for all investigative hours and expenses incurred up to the moment we receive your cancellation notice.
-
Case Setup Fee: A non-refundable $150 Case Intake & Setup Fee is retained for all new files. This covers the mandatory administrative setup, initial database sweeps, and strategy development required by Oregon law for separate client case files.
Travel and Non-Refundable Expenses
Investigative travel within Oregon and beyond involves immediate, non-recoverable costs. The following are non-refundable once committed:
-
Travel Costs: Airfare, lodging deposits, and vehicle rental fees already booked at the time of cancellation.
-
Database Fees: Charges for Oregon-specific records (e.g., DMV, property, or criminal history) or specialized proprietary database searches.
-
Third-Party Services: Any fees paid to sub-contractors or specialized experts previously authorized for your case.
Refund Timelines
Approved refunds are processed within 7–10 business days of case closure. Refunds are issued via the original payment method (Credit Card, ACH, or Business Check).
